Day: 5
Day 5 we spent backtracking through the Westfjords on route to Reykjavík. We arrived into the capital around midday while listening to a fantastic radio station called X-ID. We quickly found our hostel, where Jason met up with a friend he knew from London, England. She told us that there was a Finnish death metal band playing that night in Reykjavík and that she was thinking of going. I told Jason that if the band was Finntroll we had to go. Sure enough that is who was playing, which meant we had our evening plans all sorted out. Before the show we headed back into the city center where we did some site seeing, and eventually found a restaurant to have dinner.
We were told Iceland was expensive, and we got to experience this first hand when paying for our meals. Roughly $70 each the final bill came too. Well worth it though considering we spent the previous 4 nights eating canned beans in tomato sauce.
The Finntroll concert was an experience like no other. It was held in this pretty killer bar that had two rooms, one with the stage where the band was performing, and another where the bar was. The bar room walls were covered with huge plasma screens which were showing different camera angles from the show going on in the stage room. The concert itself was an all ages show (I know at a bar) that probably had more people there under the age of 16 than above it. Needless to say a pretty crazy experience. After the show we grabbed a pint of beer at a nearby pub before calling it a night.
