Day: 3
We continued our travel north after another early start. The weather was a little better than the previous night which made driving easier. We initially wanted to drive along the coast, however soon decided we didn't have enough time to do the full coast and headed inland toward Egilsstaðir. Driving through a mountain pass on a rough dirt road we blew out our tire. With a little help from a person driving by we were able to change our tire and get back on the road. We purchased a new tire once we arrived in Egilsstaðir. Next up we took a quick detour to Seyðisfjörður, before heading back west. The drive took us through some amazing snow passes until eventually getting into the Mývatn area.
Near Mývatn we checked out an amazing crater lake, some steaming and hissing geothermal vents, and some incredible landscape. We eventually made it to the lake which we cruised around as the sun was setting. Before finding a nice place to park the car for the night we took a nice dip in the Mývatn Natural Baths. This hotspring in our opinion was miles ahead of the Blue Lagoon.
We found a nice place to park the car by the lake just as we caught a glimpse of our first Northern Lights in Iceland. Another amazing day in Iceland then came to a close.
